Thomas nets Arkansas transfer; five-star prospect still undecided
After spending his freshman season with the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, a six-foot-nine power forward became a Golden Panther yesterday, becoming the sixth player added to the men's basketball roster by head coach Isiah Thomas this summer.
Brandon Moore is the No. 32 power forward from the recruiting class of 2008, according to rivals.com. He transferred to FIU from the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, according to Athletics. He averaged 1.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.1 minutes throughout the 2008-09 season.
Moore will have to sit out the 2009-10 season, per NCAA transfer rules, but will be eligible to play for three seasons, beginning with the 2010-11 season, according to Athletics.
The undecided five-star
Meanwhile, the No. 11 prospect of the rivals.com 2009 recruiting class Lance Stephenson, has not decided which school he will attend this year.
The list of schools still interested in Stephenson has shrunk, though, and FIU and Memphis appear to be the only schools still interested in acquiring Stephenson, according to rivals.com. At one point, heralded basketball programs such as Florida, Maryland, Kansas and Arizona were in the running for the 6-foot-6 shooting guard.
With his decision in limbo, Stephenson is handling another issue. The five-star recruit is currently dealing with a sexual assault case. The New York Daily News reported Stephenson and a teammate groped a 17-year-old girl in October.
But the Daily News also reported it isn't the sexual assault case scaring schools away from Stephenson: it's his compliance with NCAA rules. He was the subject of the reality-television series, "Born Ready," which documented his on-the-court and off-the-court life.
Stephenson's father, Lance Stephenson Sr., said the documentary was done within NCAA rules, The New York Daily News cited.
The talented guard is expected to make his decision on where to attend after a hearing on June 29, according to rivals.com and The New York Daily News.
Athletics could not comment on the matter because NCAA rules disallow schools from commenting on prospects who have not signed National Letters of Intent.
