Waddell, Mollica last Golden Panthers drafted
Outfielder Greg Waddell was chosen in the 39th round (1163rd overall) by the Seattle Mariners, and second baseman Ryan Mollica was selected in the 47th round (1424th overall) by the New York Mets in the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on June 11.
Both players saw limited playing time last season but drew enough interest to be selected.
Waddell started just 14 games for the Golden Panthers last season.
In 66 at-bats, he hit .439 with four home runs and 20 RBI. He also tied a Golden Panthers record by obtaining eight consecutive hits during one stretch.
In 41 games played, Mollica hit .354, eight home runs and 50 RBI. He missed 15 games due to mononucleosis.
The two players complete the 2009 MLB draft class, which also consisted of Tyler Townsend and Tom Ebert. The last time four Golden Panthers were drafted in one year was 2003.
