FIUSM.com Graphics Designer

FIUSM.com is looking for talented graphics designers with web experience. Graphics designers will be required to create and prepare graphics and photos for online viewing. This includes creating charts, graphs, and other forms content along with resizing and preparing photos for online display. Graphics designers may also be required to do some web design work. FIUSM.com Web Developer

We are to build a strong web development team to provide the student media team with the tools they need to maintain a state-of-the-art college multimedia website. We're looking for candidates who have most of the following skillsets:

• Object oriented programming
• Writing tableless HTML and CSS
• AJAX (JQuery preferred, SproutCore or ext.js experience a plus)
• Writing RESTful applications
• Ruby on Rails (living on the edge!)
• Working with web services and APIs
• Web caching (both fragment and page)
• Have played with memcached or other caching daemons
• PostgreSQL (other DB experience is fine)
• Experience with ImageMagick/GraphicsMagick and/or FFMPEG is a plus
• Experience with scaling large applications is also a huge plus

FIUSM.com Content Manager

Reports to the Online Director. Responsible for ensuring that section editors are able to update their sections. Will assist section editors in publishing their content online. Content Managers will also be required to build and manage a staff of online content creators (such as chart designers, image and text formatters, etc.). Knowledge of HTML and tools for web publishing such as Photoshop preferred.

Assistant News Director

FIU Student Media is seeking Assistant News Directors for the Beacon, WRGP Radiate and FIUSM.com. Newspaper assistants are responsible for attending scheduled Editorial meetings and newspaper productions. Broadcast and Web-site assistants will also attend Editorial meetings. All assistants are responsible for improving the Student Media News section and work includes but is not limited to the contribution of story ideas, article budget updates, management of news journalists, Web-site updates, editing of articles and production of news radio shows, wrap-arounds and briefs. Assistants report directly to the News Director.

Applicants must possess experience in news writing, editing articles, and management. Must be a quick learner, responsible and communicative.
